The 5th bullet point under other things to remember, - Permanent record, add this:

never address an email (To:, CC:, or BCC:) until you are ready to send. If you hit send before you address it, it will not go as there is no where to send it.

This is a tip I gave to Lawyers during their Technology training, believe it applies here too.

Great stuff and I'd like to add Sam, that an organized message will help tremendously to improve the communication. You can set up an email template showing these [dim] points:
[Purpose of Correspondence]
[Action Requested]
[Supporting Information Provided]

Then, you can fill in your message under each point, accordingly.

Have fun!

I disagree with this suggestion: "Consider making the width of your paragraphs narrower by hitting the return (enter) key after every seven or eight words."

In some email programs this results in multiple blank lines between your lines plus can also result in all kinds of strange characters in the email when read. And, if for any reason they need to copy and paste your email into another document, you've created a nightmare for your reader to format the text. This is extremely unfriendly to your reader!

Also, very important: spell check! AND do not overdo exclamation points or smiley faces. Keep it professional and too the point. Respect their time and their inbox...
