In some circumstances, when meeting someone for the first time you can say, "I'm not so good at remembering names. How will I remember yours?" I've had many people give me a helpful hint that way. And, it's even easier for me to remember since I can picture them saying the hint as well as what the hint actually is. Plus, they seem to appreciate that I'm concerned about truly wanting to remember their name. Yep, good stuff.
